This early chest of drawers, circa 1780, has full heavy timbers of tulip poplar secondary wood . The primary wood is figured black walnut. The 18 th century drawer lips are on three sides of the drawer face. The simple corner columns stand over ogee carved bracket feet. There is an early lip molding on the top and the bottom of this five drawer chest.
Believed to be a good example coming out of Winchester, Virginia, Knoxville, and Nashville, collectively known as the Winchester Virginia School
Excellent working condition, some repairs to lips and feet , restored old shellac finish, early replacement brass hardware.
